Pirate Tableau 2006

Photo - Pirate Tableau 2006The Pirate tableau is another family favourite that was starting to feel the effects of Blackpool's wet and windy weather. So in 2006 we gave the figures a bit of a touch up. Look out for the new Johnny Depp inspired Pirates of the Caribbean!.

One of the lesser known facts about this tableau is that the ship is named the Sir J. Moore, after a former Illuminations employee who retired the year that the tableau was created.

I've also since added some photos of a further spruce-up in 2009. These close-up photos taken in the depot give you an idea of just how big these models are. Note also, the level of detail in the paintwork, which is mostly spray painted with the finer shading added with a brush.

What are Blackpool Illuminations?

Photo - Sarah Myerscough (me) with Dr Who Dalek maquette made for Blackpool IlluminationsIf you have landed on this page from Google or another search engine or from a link on a website, you might just be wondering what you are looking at.

Pirate Tableau 2006 is a feature within Blackpool Illuminations, the greatest free light show on earth, where Sarah Myerscough (me) works as an artist. The Illuminations are an annual event that takes place from late August / early September to November, along six miles of the promenade in Blackpool, a seaside resort in the North West of England.

Blackpool itself is the most visited seaside resort in Europe and provides family entertainment throughout the year. It has three piers, the 518ft Blackpool Tower featuring an excellent circus, miles of golden sands, a huge amusement park (Blackpool Pleasure Beach), a waxworks (Madame Tussaud's), a Sea Life Centre, a Ripley's Believe It Or Not, a zoo (Blackpool Zoo), two major theatres (Grand Theatre and The Opera House), dozens of amusement arcades (including Coral Island), a water park (Blackpool Sandcastle) and much, much more...
