Grand Theatre Slides 2008
In 2008, as part of the Festival of Lights the Illumination's team embarked on a project to liven up Blackpool's Grand Theatre by projecting images onto it at night time.
As can be seen from the photos (and a visit if you get chance), the effect is stunning. However, when the projector was first installed in a shed on top of one of Blackpool's car parks, the slides needed to be manually changed to prevent the very powerful projector bulb from scorching them. Additionally, we weren't sure initially how hot it might get within the shed and whether there was a risk of fire.
For these reasons, staff took it in turns to operate and guard the projector over a number of windy Blackpool weeks. These photos were taken during my stint, along with my husband Dave, who accompanied me so that I wouldn't be on my own on in a deserted car park.
Note: I didn't design any of the slides featured, but have since had the opportunity to do so. Watch this space!

What are Blackpool Illuminations?
If you have landed on this page from Google or another search engine or from a link on a website, you might just be wondering what you are looking at.
Grand Theatre Slides 2008 is a feature within Blackpool Illuminations, the greatest free light show on earth, where Sarah Myerscough (me) works as an artist. The Illuminations are an annual event that takes place from late August / early September to November, along six miles of the promenade in Blackpool, a seaside resort in the North West of England.
Blackpool itself is the most visited seaside resort in Europe and provides family entertainment throughout the year. It has three piers, the 518ft Blackpool Tower featuring an excellent circus, miles of golden sands, a huge amusement park (Blackpool Pleasure Beach), a waxworks (Madame Tussaud's), a Sea Life Centre, a Ripley's Believe It Or Not, a zoo (Blackpool Zoo), two major theatres (Grand Theatre and The Opera House), dozens of amusement arcades (including Coral Island), a water park (Blackpool Sandcastle) and much, much more...
